Top-seeded VCU clinched its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 win against third-seeded Massachusetts on April 19 at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

VCU took the first point of the match at doubles with wins on courts one and three. Cindy Chala and Salome Kvitashvilli defeated UMass' top pair of Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito, before Ludvine Burguiere and Olga Barshcheuskaya took an 8-6 decision against Chanel Glasper and Anna Woosley. UMass was leading, 7-4, on court two when the point was decided.

In singles, Chala struck first for the Rams with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. VCU's Olga Barshcheuskaya followed with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Arielle Griffin, to give the Rams a 3-0 match lead.

The Minutewomen netted first set wins on all remaining courts, including a first set tiebreaker, 7-6(4) behind Ana Yrazusta. With UM leading in second sets at No. 2, 5, and 6, the match was called when Glasper of UMass was forced to retire due to injury.

VCU's Cindy Chala was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Most Outstanding Performer for the third straight year while Ana Yrazusta of Massachusetts was named Most Outstanding Rookie Performer. UMass head coach Judy Dixon was named Coach of the Year.

The VCU women’s tennis team, making their 10th consecutive NCAA appearance, fell in the first round of the NCAA tournament to #8 seed Virginia, 4-0.

For the second time in the last three years, VCU senior Cindy Chala earned a berth in the NCAA singles and doubles Championships. Chala dropped her NCAA singles match to No. 4 Margan Manasse of Cal, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
