Dayton, St. Bonaventure, VCU Share A-10 Menís Basketball Regular Season Title

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Dayton, St. Bonaventure and VCU are the 2016 Atlantic 10 Conference regular season Co-Champions, each with a 14-4 league record. The Flyers, by virtue of the three-team tiebreaker, will be the top seed for the 2016 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship. The 14-team tournament begins Wednesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. with the championship final set for Sunday, March 13.

All five days of the championship will be televised. The American Sports Network (ASN) will air Wednesday’s first round games while NBCSN will carry the entire second round Thursday and all four quarterfinal matchups Friday. CBS Sports Network will air the semifinals Saturday at 1:30 and 4:00 pm. The championship final is set for 12:30 pm on CBS Sports as part of their annual Selection Sunday coverage.

Dayton earns the No. 1 seed because of its 2-1 regular season record versus St. Bona and VCU. The Flyers, who claim their fourth A-10 regular season title have a double-bye into the quarterfinals and will play at noon on Friday on NBCSN.

Second-seeded VCU, which had a 1-1 record against Dayton and the Bonnies also earns a double-bye. The Rams, which won their first A-10 regular season crown, play at 6:30 pm Friday on NBCSN. VCU won the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship.

St. Bonaventure will be the No. 3 seed and will play in the quarterfinals at 9:00 pm on Friday. The Bonnies claimed the third double-bye and their first-ever A-10 regular season title.

Saint Joseph’s earns the final double-bye as the No. 4 seed. The Hawks had a 13-5 conference record and open championship play Friday at 2:30 pm on NBCSN.

Seeds five through 10 earn single byes into the second round and will play Thursday on NBCSN. Fifth-seeded George Washington (11-6) will play Thursday at 2:30 pm versus the winner of No. 12 George Mason (5-13) and No. 13 Saint Louis (5-13). The Patriots and SLU split during the regular season and will play at 6:30 pm Wednesday on ASN. Mason wins the tiebreaker over the Billikens because of their record against Dayton, the top-seeded team.

Sixth-seeded Davidson (10-8) plays Thursday at 9:00 pm against the winner of No. 11 Duquesne (6-12) and No. 14 La Salle (4-14). The Dukes and Explorers play at 9:00 pm Wednesday on ASN.

No. 7 Rhode Island (9-9) faces No. 10 Massachusetts (6-12), which earned the 10 seed over Duquesne based on head-to-head results. That game is set for 6:30 pm Thursday. Eighth-seeded Fordham will play No. 9 Richmond at noon Thursday.
