WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Richmond men's golf team had its historic 2017 campaign come to a close in the NCAA Regionals on Wednesday afternoon at the Kampen Course, despite a strong final round that put the team in contention to move up the leaderboard.

The Spiders outplayed the region's top-seeded team, Florida, by nine strokes and had moved into and out of the ninth position in a battle with Campbell and South Carolina all day but ultimately settled for a respectable 11th-place finish. The team outplayed its 12 seed and placed a pair of individuals in the top 50 of a stacked field.

Zack Justice capped off his Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year campaign by leading the Spiders with a +9, 225 (75, 73, 77). He closed in a tie for 31st overall joining A-10 Golfer of the Year Keegan Hoff in the top 50 who finished in a tie for 44th after firing a +12, 228. After struggling to an 82 on Tuesday, the senior recovered to shoot even par on the windy course on Wednesday while many others fell back.

Junior Matthew Lowe and senior Mark Reilly each tossed in +16, 232 efforts to finish in a tie for 59th while freshman Andrew Sciarretta backed up an 82 on Monday with back-to-back 76's to close at +18, 234.

The Spiders won the Atlantic 10 for the first time in program history this season an not only earned the Golfer and Rookie of the Year awards but head coach Adam Decker took home Coach of the Year honors for the second-straight season. The Spiders lose Reilly and Hoff but return the two talented freshmen in Sciarretta and Justice along with senior-to-be Matthew Lowe who won the A-10 individual title in 2016.
