NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's junior Paige Bergman has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Earning Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors were SJU junior Grace Bendon and Saint Louis senior Mary Niehaus. Lauren Bell of Duquesne and Annabelle Copeland shared Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards are for games played Sept. 4-10.

For the second straight game, Hawks' junior Paige Bergman tallied the game-winning goal off a direct corner kick, this time with the decisive goal struck in the 23rd minute in a 1-0 win at previously unbeaten Ohio State. The Runnemede, N.J., native landed her only shot on goal in SJU's fourth win of the season.

Posting one of the best performances in her career, Bendon, a junior from Doylestown, Pa., made nine saves in a 1-0 shutout victory at Ohio State (RV). Bendon, who moved to 4-1-1 on the season, made eight of the game-high nine saves in the second half to hand Ohio State its first loss of the year.

Niehaus made a career-high eight saves, including six in the second half and first overtime, as the Billikens tied 19th-ranked Kansas in front of a record crowd, 1-1. The senior goalie from St. Charles, Mo., has allowed just three goals in seven games for an A-10 leading .43 goals against average.

Bell, a forward from Hermitage, Pa., finished her week with two goals and an assist in a win against Xavier and a double-overtime tie versus Seton Hall. Against the Musketeers, Bell found the back of the net for the eventual game-winning goal and added an assist in the 3-1 victory. She then netted the game-tying goal against Seton Hall. Bell put all six shots on goal in the pair of games.

Copeland, a Godfrey, Ill., product netted the equalizer in a dramatic 1-1 double-overtime tie against #19 Kansas. The rookie landed her only shot on goal in 34 minutes of play for the Billikens, who extended their home unbeaten streak to 14 games.
