Aldridge Chosen as A-10 Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson senior Peyton Aldridge was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Duquesne freshman Eric Williams, Jr. was chosen the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played Jan. 1-7.


Aldridge finished the week averaging 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting 53.8 percent overall and 88.9 percent from the line in a pair of A-10 wins. After leading Davidson to a comeback win over Saint Louis with 21 points and seven rebounds, Aldridge capped his week with 17 points, seven more boards and three blocks at George Mason. The forward from Leavittsburg, Ohio, swished seven field goals in each game and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line against Saint Louis in claiming his second Player of the Week award this year.


Williams, who won Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, averaged 15.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in Duquesne's two wins last week. The New Haven, Mich., guard posted his sixth double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds versus George Washington, hitting a career high-tying five 3-pointers against the Colonials. Williams followed that with nine points and eight rebounds in the victory at Fordham. He shot .500 for the week (10-of-20), including 6-of-7 from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the foul line.



Davidson freshman Kellan Grady averaged 14.5 points per game in Davidson’s two victories, while also grabbing four steals versus SLU … Darrell Davis was a perfect 10-for-10 at the line en route to 28 points and seven rebounds in Dayton’s win over St. Bonaventure … Dayton freshman Jalen Crutcher was 5-for-8 (.625) from the field for 12 points, and dished out six assists in the win over the Bonnies … Rene Castro-Caneddy scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 3-for-5 (.600) from 3-point range to help Duquesne to its largest margin of victory ever against an A-10 opponent … Otis Livingston III had a monster week in scoring, averaging 26.5 points per game, including an overtime win at UMass in which he tallied 33 points on 10 made field goals and a perfect 11-for-11 at the charity stripe, combined with nine assists … Pookie Powell averaged 19 points per game and 5.5 rebounds in two games for La Salle, and he dished out six assists at Rhode Island… Rhode Island’s Jared Terrell scored 22 points on 9-of-12 (.750) shooting and 4-of-5 (.800) from 3-point range in the Rams’ win at GW … St. Bonaventure freshman Izaiah Brockington averaged 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Bonnies in two games this week … James Demery scored 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting in Saint Joseph’s win over the Bonnies, and had 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the VCU victory … Hawks’ freshman Taylor Funk was 4-for-7 (.571) from 3-point range to help him to a 19-point performance in the SJU win over VCU … Davell Roby averaged 13 points, six rebounds and three assists in a split week for Saint Louis … Saint Louis freshman Hassan French had 14 points, nine rebounds and was 6-for-11 (.545) from the field in the Billikens’ win over Richmond.
