Bronx, N.Y. – Director of Athletics Dave Roach today announced that Ian Choi will be elevated from his position as assistant coach to head coach of the Fordham volleyball program.

"We're happy that Ian has chosen to accept the promotion to head coach at Fordham," Roach said, "We believe that working with the Fordham student-athletes this past year, along with the experience gained serving as an assistant in the Atlantic 10 Conference, will be a great benefit to him. Ian has also demonstrated that he is focused on the welfare of the student-athlete, both on and off the court, which will greatly enhance the Fordham student-athlete experience."

Choi just finished his inaugural season as assistant coach, where he trained middles and liberos, oversaw the scouting of opponents, and served as recruiting coordinator. The Rams finished the season 12-15, 4-10 in conference, and seventh in the league standings.

"I appreciate the opportunity that Dave has given me and to all those who have helped shape my experiences to bring me here today," Choi said, "I look forward to leading Fordham volleyball. We have a great group of student-athletes, who continue to show growth in their skills and competitive attitudes.  I'm confident in our abilities to continue our upward trend and to ultimately contend for an A-10 title."

Prior to arriving at Fordham, Choi spent two years as an assistant coach at San Jose State University, while attaining his master's degree in Kinesiology, where he had the same responsibilities, plus training setters and defensive specialists, and coordinating serve and pass. During his two years there, the Spartans saw their second-highest rise in RPI.

Prior to San Jose State, Choi received his bachelor's degree at the University of Texas, where he worked as a student assistant, helping the Longhorns secure a Big 12 championship. After graduation, Choi moved on to the University of Kansas for one season, where he trained liberos and defensive specialists, and helped the Jayhawks reach the NCAA tournament with an at-large bid.

Choi is also active at the club level, coaching Austin Junior Volleyball for six years while at Texas and City Beach while at San Jose State for two, and is currently serving as the head coach of the 18U National squad of NYC juniors.
