A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships to Be Held Feb. 14-17

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The George Washington Colonials Men’s Swimming and Diving team seeks to defends its first conference title while the University of Richmond women look for their eighth straight at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, which begin Wednesday, February 14th and conclude Saturday, February 17th at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The Colonials look to capture their second overall A-10 Swimming and Diving Championship after winning the team title at last year’s championship with a total of 562.5 points. This year’s George Washington squad is led by the 2017 Coach of the Year, James Winchester. Also returning from last year’s team is Mortiz Fath, who was the 2017 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer.

Also contending for the men’s title will be last year’s runner-up, La Salle, along with Davidson, Fordham, George Mason, Massachusetts, Saint Louis, and St. Bonaventure

On the women’s side, Richmond will look to claim its 16th A-10 Championship in the last 17 years at this year’s championship after taking home the title in 2017 with 570 points. The Spiders are led by the 2017 A-10 Coach of the Year, Matt Barany. The 2017 Most Outstanding Rookie, Hannah Gouger, also returns to the pool, hoping to help Richmond to an A-10 title.

Also in contention for the women’s title will be last year’s runner-up, Duquesne, along with Davidson, Fordham, George Mason, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Saint Louis, and St. Bonaventure.

The Championship begins at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 14th with the trials of the men’s one-meter diving competition, followed by the finals of the men’s and women’s 200-yd medley and 800-yd freestyle relays at 5:00 pm, along with the finals of the men’s one-meter diving competition. The Championships continue at 10:00 am on Thursday with preliminaries, followed by the finals at 6:30 pm. The same schedule will be following on Friday and Saturday.
