NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Richmond senior Kim Egizi and junior Julie Ball were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. La Salle's Bridget Ruskey was also honored as the Rookie of the Week. The awards are the first of the 2018 season and are for games played Feb. 5-11.
Egizi, an attack from Westwood, Mass., started her final season as a Spider with a career game, logging a career-high eight points in a 16-5 win over Campbell. Egizi scored five goals and assisted on three others, including a four-goal, second-half performance. She also won a game-high six draw controls and caused one turnover in the win.
Ball led a Richmond defense that held Campbell to one first-half goal (five total) in a 16-5 win. The junior from Winnetka, Ill., put on a clinic on the defensive end, collecting five ground balls and causing a career-high five turnovers after causing 10 turnovers the entire 2017 season. Ball also did not turn the ball over or commit a foul in the win.
Ruskey, a Stone Harbor, N.J. native, scored three goals and had an assist for La Salle in a close 8-6 loss to Fresno State. Ruskey led the Explorer offense that scored the final four goals of the game in a comeback attempt that fell just short. She finished with a team-high nine shots and also caused a turnover and secured a draw.
