A-10 Leads Nation with 20 Track & Field Teams Earning USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Accolades

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –  The U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2013 Division I All-Academic Track & Field teams with a total of 298 men’s and women’s teams earning the distinction as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher. The Atlantic 10 Conference led all conferences for the 2012-13 season with a total of 20 teams represented, 12 teams on the women’s side and eight on the men’s side. In addition, the Fordham men ranked eighth overall with a cumulative team GPA of 3.33.

The Atlantic 10 was also heavily represented on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team where 20 student-athletes from nine A-10 institutions were honored. The University of Rhode Island led all A-10 institutions with a total of six representatives. Among the A-10 honorees were La Salle’s Alfredo Santana and VCU’s Kiara Porter. Santana was named both the 2013 A-10 Men’s Most Outstanding Track Performer for both Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. While Porter was named the A-10 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Track Performer along with earning Honorable Mention All-American honors for her performance in the 400-meters at the NCAA Championships.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must compile a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
