NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Massachusetts defeated Richmond, 5-0, to claim their 13th Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship title, outshooting the Spiders 13-8.

The Minutewomen's Thando Zono launched the first goal of the match 9:58 into the first half. Zono later scored the second goal off of a penalty shot, assisted by Callie Sweigart and Kate Heineman. Shooting from the center, Heineman scored the third goal of the game, assisted by Kim Young. Shortly after assisting Heineman on the third goal, Young posted a goal for UMass off of a penalty shot.

Zono finished out the match with the final goal of the game, naming her the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, tallying a total of five goals over the weekend, two against Temple and three against Richmond.

UMass' defense held off Richmond the entire game, allowing only eight shots. The Spiders played hard the entire match, despite their tough loss to the Minutewomen.

Following the Championship game, the Atlantic 10 Conference office announced the All-Tournament team honorees. Heading the list was Massachusetts' Thando Zono as the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Joining Zono are teammates Lauren Allymohamed, Nicole Cordero, Noralie Weusthuis, and Sam Carlino, Richmond's Taylor Deitrick, Rebecca Barry, and Amy Cooke, Temple's Amber Youtz and Katie Briglia, and Kelsey Scherrer of VCU.
