DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton volleyball has debuted at No. 22 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) preseason Top 25 poll. This is the fifth-consecutive year and seventh year overall the Flyers have appear in the national coaches' poll.
"It is always an honor to be recognized by the AVCA as one of the Top 25 teams in the country," commented head coach Matt Affolder following the release of the first poll of the season. "Each and every year we set goals that stretch far beyond the Top 25, but to be named among this prestigious list of programs is something we take very seriously. "
The Flyers will kick off the 2013 season with their annual Red-Blue Scrimmage on Saturday, August 24 in Frericks Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free. The regular season will be begin Aug. 30 at home for UD as the Flyers are set to host the Dayton Invitational with matches against Tulsa, Northeastern and Missouri State.
"Every time we step on the floor we have something to prove. Day one of preseason, our first match of the year and our last match of the year are all exactly the same," said Affolder. "We want to be a program that strives for excellence each and every day, in every phase of our life."
The Flyers' 2013 schedule features five teams that either appeared in or received votes in the first AVCA poll of the season, including No. 10 Nebraska and No. 15 Iowa State.
