NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—VCU sophomore Romana Kriskova earned her league-leading fourth weekly honor Monday, securing the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week award. She was joined in the weekly awards by Dayton junior Isolde Hannan, who was named Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week Lacey Levers, a freshman at Duquesne. The awards were for matches played October 14-20.
Kriskova, who won two of the first three Player of the Week awards this season and then claimed her third award last week, led VCU to a perfect 2-0 week. The outside hitter averaged 5.50 kills, 1.17 aces and 0.50 blocks per set, while hitting .371 in wins over George Mason and Saint Louis. She had 18 kills, hit .406 and six aces versus Mason. The Bratislava, Slovakia native then had 15 kills and hit .333 against Saint Louis. Kriskova moved into fifth place on VCU’s single-season kills list with 456.
Hannan, a Dublin, Ohio native, was the Flyers’ leading blocker with 2.14 per set over the weekend as Dayton picked up two league wins. A middle hitter, she recorded seven blocks to go with six kills on Friday against Fordham. Hannan followed that performance with eight blocks, five kills against Rhode Island. She also posted a .500 hitting percentage after swinging error-free in 10 attempts versus Rhody.
Levers hit .237 in Duquesne’s two wins over Rhode Island and Fordham, but her biggest contribution came on the defensive side of the net. A middle hitter from Washington, Pa., she recorded a career-high 10 blocks against Rhode Island. She tallied another six against Fordham while hitting .364. She averaged 2.29 blocks per set for the week without committing a single blocking errors. She also had 13 total kills and three aces.
