Second Half Surge Lifts La Salle Over George Washington
RICHMOND, Va. – The second-seeded La Salle Explorers (14-4-2) fired off two second-half goals in under a minute to defeat the George Washington Colonials in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship.
With just over 15 minutes left in the match, La Salle senior Renee Washington found herself in the right place at the right time as she cleaned up a deflection off of a header from teammate Kelsey Haycook, for the first goal of the game, and her eighth on the season. Redshirt-junior Anna Dolhansky and Haycook registered assists on the score.
Less than a minute later, redshirt-junior Jackie Cammarata played down a deflection twenty yards out from junior Gabriella Carbone before lofting a shot to the upper left corner past George Washington goalie, Nicole Ulrick.
La Salle held control of the second half offensively, taking nine shots, while holding GW to just one, with All-Conference goalkeeper, Jessica Wiggins recording her eighth win on the season.
The Explorers will face the winner of the 1:30 pm quarterfinal match between No. 3 Saint Louis and No. 6 Massachusetts tomorrow at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.
