Roberts, Graham Share Honor, Severe Selected for Rookie Award

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Joseph’s senior Ronald Roberts, Jr. and VCU junior Treveon Graham as its Co-Players of the Week for games played Nov. 25 – Dec. 1. Fordham freshman Jon Severe was also named the league’s Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.

Roberts averaged 20 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks and was named All-Tournament as Hawks went 2-1 in the 2013 Old Spice Classic with wins over Siena and Washington State. A forward from Bayonne, N.J., Roberts scored 21, including his 1,000th career point versus LSU and he had his second double-double of the year with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Washington State. He shot 67 percent or better from the field in each of the Hawks’ three games and was 26-for-38 (68.4 percent) from the field on the week. He also averaged seven rebounds per game and totaled five blocks on the week.

Graham averaged 20 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of VCU wins last week. He scored game-high and season-high 24 points in home win over Northeastern, shooting 9-of-12 from the floor and perfect 4-of-4 from long range. He had eight rebounds and two assists in that game. He followed that with 16 points and nine rebounds in a road win at Belmont. The guard shot 5-of-8 from the floor against the Bruins and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. He had nine rebounds and three assists in the win. A native of Temple Hills, Md., Graham is now 72 points away from 1,000 and has scored in double-figures in every game this year for the Rams.

Severe scored a game-high 30 points in the Battle of the Bronx with Manhattan to earn game MVP honors and lead the Rams to a win. The guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., was 9-for-21 from the field, including 4-for-9 from beyond the arc. He also hit eight free throws and grabbed five rebounds in the victory.

Devin Oliver earned a spot on the Maui Invitational All-Tournament team, averaging 15.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists to help Dayton to wins over Gonzaga and California and a near win over Baylor … Dayton freshman Kendall Pollard played a critical role in the Gonzaga win, registering nine points off the first four field goals of his young career in just 11 minutes of action … Sherrod Wright scored 27 points in a loss to Princeton and followed that with 16 points to lead George Mason to a non-conference win over Rhode Island in the Patriots first head-to-head with another A-10 member … Mason freshman Jalen Jenkins also played a role in the win over Rhody, tallying career highs in points (9) rebounds (11) and blocks (5) …GW’s Isaiah Armwood earned Wooden Legacy All-Tournament honors with 11 points, 6.7 boards and 3.0 blocks, but his best effort might have been in shutting down national Player of the Year candidate Doug McDermott in the Colonials win over Creighton … … Xavier Munford averaged 17.7 points per game in three games for Rhode Island, including a 26-point outburst against McNeese State where he shot 60 percent from the field and from 3-point range …  Cedrick Lindsay averaged 15 points and was key for the Spiders in almost every possession, tallying nine assists in each game in wins at Air Force and over James Madison … Richmond rookie ShawnDre’ Jones had a perfect shooting day versus JMU, hitting 4-of-4 from the field, including 3-of-3 from long range, and 2-of-2 at the line for 13 total points … Matthew Wright led St. Bonaventure to two wins, an appearance in the Gulf Coast Showcase Championship game and earned All-Tournament honors by averaging 23.7 points per game, including a 32-point effort in a win over Southern Illinois … Dwayne Evans led Saint Louis in scoring and rebounding, tallying 17 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for the Billikens.
