Dayton Powers its Way to a 9-1 Victory Over La Salle
Bronx, N.Y. – Fifth-seeded Dayton used three home runs en route to a 9-1 victory over La Salle in an elimination game of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Championship.
With the win Dayton improves to 26-28 overall and the Flyers advance to Thursday’s 5:00 p.m. game. The victory is UD’s first in the A-10 Championship since it defeated Temple 2-0 in Game Four of the 2000 Championship.
Gabrielle Snyder got the Flyer offense going with a solo blast to lead off the UD second inning. Later that inning, Kasi Vazquez delivered a two out, two RBI, double that plated Rachel Archer and Kennedy English to make the score 4-0.
With one out in the Dayton third inning, Snyder and Dana Trotter recorded back-to-back singles before Jordan Jennings delivered a three-run home run to make the score 7-0.
Tiffany Ricks connected for a home run to lead off the Dayton fourth inning to make it 8-0.
Danielle Cullen launched a home run for La Salle in the fifth inning that accounted for the lone Explorers run of the afternoon. La Salle finishes the season 18-24.
Kayla English surrendered just two hits for Dayton to earn the win. English struck out three, becoming Dayton’s all-0time leader in punch outs. Mary Cate Scott took the loss in the circle for La Salle after tossing a total of 2.2 innings, giving up four runs and nine hits.
