Women's Soccer Weekly Awards Announced

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Dayton's Nicole Waters and Fordham's Kate McDonnell have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Co-Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Also honored were Kaila Williams of George Mason and Danielle Vis of St. Bonaventure, who earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors.

Waters earns her second straight Player of the Week nod after helping the Flyers to two wins last weekend. Against UC Santa Barbara, the junior netted the game-winning goal and added an assist in a 2-0 victory. Then in Dayton's 5-1 win over Murray State, Waters recorded three assists, totaling six points on the weekend. The Terra Cotta, Ontario, native, leads the Flyers, and the A-10 with 13 points in four games.

McDonnell scored in each of Fordham's two wins last weekend, extending their current win streak to three. The West Caldwell, N.J., product scored on a header in the 85th minute in a 1-0 shutout of Vermont. The senior forward then tallied her second goal of the year, and the game, as the Rams blanked Maine 2-0.

Williams scored George Mason's first goal of the season, lifting the Patriots to a 2-1 victory against American. On her lone shot of the contest, the freshman from Woodbridge, Va.,  finished a Sydney Mitchell feed into the back corner of the net in the seventh minute of the contest. The goal marked the rookie's first collegiate score, and helped George Mason to their first victory of the season.

Vis scored the eventual game-winner in a 2-0 win against Canisius for the Bonnies last week, scoring in the 13th minute of the game. Off a cross from teammate Abby Maiello, Vis took the ball and quickly sent a shot to the upper right corner of the net. The Milton, Ontario rookie tops the league in game-winners with two, scoring in Bona's first win of the season against Kent State.
