NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— The Atlantic 10 Conference has reached an agreement with the American Sports Network (ASN) to provide supplemental national television coverage of Atlantic 10 basketball this season, the league announced on Monday.
ASN will produce six A-10 men’s basketball games and one women’s basketball game, all conference matchups, during the 2014-15 season. Eight Atlantic 10 members will appear in ASN games at least once.
With 162 television stations nationwide, ASN is available to approximately 43.4 million households. ASN affiliates in states with A-10 institutions include Washington, D.C. (WJLA), St. Louis (KDNL), Pittsburgh (WPMY), Raleigh (WRDC), Columbus (WSYX), Cincinnati (WSTR), Asheville, N.C. (WMYA), Norfolk, Va. (WTVZ), Harrisburg, Pa. (WLYH), Greensboro, N.C. (WMYV), Buffalo, N.Y. (WNYO), Richmond, Va. (WRLH), Albany, N.Y. (WCWN), Dayton, Ohio (WRGT), Roanoke, Va. (WSET), Toledo, Ohio (WNWO), Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM), Syracuse, N.Y. (WSTQ), Johnstown, Pa. (WJAC) and Steubenville, Ohio (WTOV). ASN is operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Selected games may receive additional distribution via other local affiliates and/or regional sports networks, including SNY in New York. Individual game clearances will be listed on Atlantic10.com the week prior to each contest.
The six men’s basketball games adds to the A-10’s previously announced national television package that includes 75 games on ESPN, CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network. Those same television partners will also carry 16 women’s basketball games in 2014-15.
The A-10 is coming off the most successful year in league history in which a record six men’s basketball teams earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Dayton advanced to the Elite Eight, marking the seventh straight year an Atlantic10 team has advanced to the Sweet 16 or beyond. The league finished sixth in the RPI last season with nine teams in the RPI Top 100. Six A-10 teams had over 24 wins, the most of any conference, and the 13 members won 71 percent of their non-conference games in 2014-15.
At least seven Atlantic 10 women’s basketball teams have reached postseason play in each of the last five years. Last season, the Conference had seven teams with 20 or more wins for the first time since the 2010-11 season and its members combined for the highest winning percentage in non-conference play since the 2002-03 season.
