VCU, GW to Represent A-10 in NCAA Championships

WOMEN'S BRACKET

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Winning the 2015 Atlantic 10 Tennis Championships, the VCU women's tennis team and the George Washington men's tennis team will represent the A-10 in the 2015 NCAA Tennis Championships.

VCU (16-8), who won its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship, will travel to Charlottesville, May 9th, to face the ninth-seeded Cavaliers of Virginia in the first round at 12 pm. 

The Rams fell to Virginia earlier this year, dropping a 6-1 decision. Three-time Most Outstanding Performer, Cindy Chala, earned the lone point of the match, defeating #16 Stephanie Nauta in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 10-6).

The Cavalier women (21-5) earned a No. 9 overall seed, after winning their second consecutive ACC Championship. Virginia enters the tournament on a six-match winning streak, with five of the six wins against NCAA Tournament teams. 


 

 

MEN'S BRACKET

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The 2015 Atlantic 10 champion George Washington men's tennis team will travel to No. 12 Wake Forest for its fourth-ever NCAA Team Championship appearance. The Colonials will take on the Demon Deacons in the first round on Friday, May 8, at 3 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

GW enters the NCAA first round on a seven-match win streak, dating back to April 4 when the Colonials upset No. 61 UNC-Wilmington, 4-3. The Buff and Blue tallied a perfect 4-0 record at home and have persevered through one of its most challenging spring schedules to date, taking on seven of the ITA's top-65 ranked programs.

No. 12 Wake Forest (22-7) saw a nine-match win streak snapped in the ACC finals as the nation's third-ranked Virginia triumphed, 4-2, to take the conference crown. Four Demon Deacons have surpassed the 20-win mark in singles action, led by Christian Seraphim (28-14) at the No. 5 position. The ITA's No. 6-ranked solo player, freshman Noah Rubin holds a 19-3 mark in the spring at the top spot and enter's NCAA first-round action after defeating his last 10 opponents. Two other singles players hold national rankings for Wake Forest, No. 16 Romain Bogaerts and No. 106 Jon Ho.
