The Duquesne Dukes captured the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women’s Cross Country Championship with 58 points and an average time of 18:08.52 to win their second straight A-10 title. La Salle’s Morgan Szekely was the individual winner with a time of 17:31.2. The Women’s 5K race was held at Schenley Park and hosted by Duquesne University.

Duquesne finished with four competitors in the top 20, including Valerie Palermo, Danica Snyder and Jenny Delsignore who all finished in the top 10 to help the Dukes to their second straight women’s cross country championship.

Duquesne coach Cailtin Cotter won Coach of the Year honors and La Salle’s Morgan Szekely was also named the Most Outstanding Rookie as the top freshman finisher.

Szekely concluded her 2014 season finishing 169th out of a field of 253 runners with a time of 21:40.7 (6K) at the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championships hosted by Indiana State University. Szekely, from Marion, Texas, recorded a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship with a time of 20:34 (6K) at the Blue-White Golf Course in University Park, Pa. Szekely was the first freshman in Explorer history to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
