Dayton, La Salle, Fordham Earn Men's Soccer Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Dayton's Amass Amankona and La Salle's Mike Kirk have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Co-Players of the Week, while Fordham's Janos Loebe was named Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. The awards are for games played Sept. 14-Sept. 20.

Amankona netted seven points last week as Dayton went 1-0-1 against Northern Kentucky and No. 24 Western  Michigan. The fifth-year senior recorded a pair of goals and an assist in UD's 4-0 victory over Northern Kentucky. He followed that up with the lone goal in a 1-1 tie against nationally-ranked Western Michigan. The Kumasi, Ghana, native leads the team in goals, points and shots on goal, and also leads the A-10 in points (12) and goals (5).

Kirk anchored the La Salle defense that picked up two wins last week, including his third shutout of the season, a 1-0 win against No. 25/21 UMBC. Against Rider on Tuesday, Kirk made six saves in a 2-1 victory, before holding the Retrievers scoreless on Saturday, recording a .889 save percentage on the week. The senior from Mechanicsburg, Pa., faced 18 shots (nine on goal), and leads the league in shutouts (3).

Loebe recorded three assists in two games last week as Fordham went 1-0-1. Against Army, the rookie assisted in the lone goal in the 1-1 draw. He then tallied a pair of assists in Fordham's first win of the season, a 3-2 victory over Fairfield. The Kierspe, Germany, native has now had a hand in five of the Rams' six goals on the season (1 goal, 4 assists). His four assists tops the A-10.
