NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Dayton's Maik Schooderwoerd and Duquesne's Colin Phillips have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Co-Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. St. Bonaventure's Kosi Nwafornso was also honored as the Rookie of the Week. The awards are for games played Oct. 19-25.
Schoonderwoerd scored a hat trick in Dayton’s 4-1 win over UMass in the Flyers' only match of the week. The senior from Wamel, Netherlands, scored in the second, 13th, and 29th minutes, completing the first-half hat trick. Schoonderwoerd now has seven goals and 19 points on the season, ranking third in the conference in both categories.
Phillips had a three goals and an assist in helping Duquesne to back-to-back wins at George Mason and over St. Bonaventure. The Ottawa, Ontario, native assisted on Duquesne's first goal, then scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 3-1 win at Mason. He then followed that with his fourth two-goal game of the season in a 3-0 victory over St. Bonaventure. Phillips leads the Dukes in both goals (10) and assists (4) and the A-10 in goals and points (24).
Nwafornso led the Bonnies to an upset win at George Washington, 2-1, on Wednesday with a pair of goals. The rookie from Abuja, Nigeria scored the game-winner in the 61st minute and also posted the first goal of the match in the 11th minute. Nwafornso leads the Bonnies with four goals on the year.
