Erhahon, Self Earn A-10 Volleyball Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Dayton junior Amber Erhahon was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Rhode Island senior Layne Self earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. George Washington freshman Skylar Iott and La Salle’s Devin Corah were selected as the league’s Co-Rookies of the Week. All awards, presented by Come Ready Nutrition, were for matches played Aug. 29-Sept. 4.

Erhahon led the Flyers to a 4-0 week with a .430 hitting percentage and 0.88 blocks per set. She recorded a career-high 20 kills to go with five blocks in Dayton's 3-1 win over Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday. Over the weekend at the Dayton Invitational, Erhahon was named to the All-Tournament Team following three wins at home. The middle blocker from Albany, Calif., recorded nine kills and three blocks against intra-state rival Xavier followed by a 12-kill, three-block, three-dig match against Northwestern. In the weekend finale, Erhahon tallied seven kills and three blocks in a sweep of Chattanooga. For the week, she scored 3.66 points per set while averaging 3.00 kills per set.  

Self averaged 2.44 blocks per set in a 3-0 week for Rhode Island with wins over Hartford, CCSU and Manhattan. The middle blocker from Hawthorne Woods, Ill., also recorded 25 kills (2.78 kills per set) and posted a .465 attack percentage for the week. After this weekend’s performance, Self moved into fourth place all-time at Rhode Island in career blocks, with 392.

Iott registered a trio of double-digit kill matches for the second consecutive weekend to help George Washington to a 2-1 weekend at the Seton Hall Classic. The outside hitter from Ida, Mich. Scored a match-high 25 kills in a 3-1 win over Seton Hall. She swung .465 for the match and added four digs and four blocks (one solo, three assists). On Saturday she totaled 22 kills in a loss to Towson and straight-sets win over Canisius. Against Towson she recorded 11 kills, nine digs and one block assist before concluding the weekend with 11 kills and four digs. For the week she totaled 47 kills (.288) with 17 digs, four blocks (one solo, three assists), four assists and two service aces.

Corah led the Explorers to a second-place finish at the Jack Kaiser Classic this past weekend picking up wins over Binghamton and Niagara along with a midweek win against Lafayette.  The outside hitter from Calgary, Canada, tallied 20 kills in a match against Niagara en route to recording 50 kills for the week with an attack percentage of .290. Corah earned All-Tournament team honors this weekend at the Jack Kaiser Classic.
