NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Dayton junior Jessica Sloan was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while sophomore teammate Margo Wolf earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Dayton freshman Jamie Peterson was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. All awards, presented by Come Ready Nutrition, were for matches played Sept. 5-11.
Sloan helped lead Dayton to a 3-0 weekend at the Evansville Dunn Hospitality Tournament this weekend averaging 5.11 kills per set. In Friday's 3-0 win over Kent State, the junior outside hitter from Marietta, Ga., recorded a 15-kill, 10-dig double-double. Sloan opened Saturday with 16 kills, six digs and three blocks in a 3-0 win over host Evansville and followed that with 15 kills, four digs and four blocks as Dayton downed Austin Peay, 3-0.
Wolf was Dayton's leading passer as the Flyers went unbeaten at Evansville's Dunn Hospitality Tournament, averaging 5.56 digs per set and posting a 1.000 reception percentage in 25 attempts. On Friday, the sophomore Libero from Cincinnati, Ohio, got under 19 digs and set two assists in a 3-0 win over Kent State. Wolf tallied 10 digs, three assists and one service ace as Dayton defeated host Evansville, 3-0, and followed with 21 digs against Austin Peay in a 3-0 victory Saturday evening.
Peterson averaged 2.44 kills per set and hit .465 over a 3-0 weekend for Dayton. Over nine sets, she tallied 22 kills in 43 attempts to only two errors. On Friday, Peterson recorded eight kills, three digs, two blocks and two assists as Dayton defeated Kent State, 3-0. In Sunday's doubleheader, the outside hitter from West Liberty, Ohio, opened the day with seven kills in a 3-0 win over Evansville and ended the weekend with seven kills and three blocks in a 3-0 victory against Austin Peay.
