Heine and Yeager Named A-10 Men?s Soccer Weekly Award Winners

George Washington senior Garrett Heine was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Saint Louis sophomore Ben Yeager earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Saint Louis freshman Saadiq Mohammed was also selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played Oct. 10-16.

Heine posted a stellar week for the Colonials, amassing nine points on four goals and one assist in two Atlantic 10 victories. On Wednesday, Heine matched a career high with five points on two goals and an assist as George Washington took a 3-0 road win at George Mason for the squad's first conference win of the year. On Saturday, Heine added two more goals, including an impressive score from a free kick just outside the box that bent inside of the back post. Heine's goals on Saturday helped the Colonials defeat Saint Joseph's 3-0 at home. The senior from San Diego, Calif.,  started both matches and played 149 minutes in the week of play. Heine was a highly efficient shooter, sinking all four of his shots on the week.

Yeager totaled 11 saves on the week in two victories.  Billikens are now 3-0 since he took over at goalkeeper for an injured Sascha Otte. The St. Louis native had six saves in the shutout victory against Rhode Island, and made five saves, including a diving stop at the end of regulation, to secure a 2-1 Billiken victory against George Mason.

Mohammed scored game-winning goals in both games last week for the Billikens, a 1-0 win over Rhode Island and a 2-1 win versus George Mason. The forward from Mogadishu, Somalia has now scored in three consecutive games, and all goals have been game winners.
