LOUISVILLE, Ky. - George Washington softball's Jenna Cone has been named a finalist for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced on Thursday.
Cone is one of 25 finalists for the prestigious award.
Cone has posted a monster rookie campaign, shattering GW's single-season program home run record, owning 17 round-trippers and counting. The Trabuco Canyon, California, native leads the Colonials in most offensive categories, including average (.403), runs (40), RBI (52), slugging percentage (.868), on-base percentage (.481) and walks (21). The infielder is just two RBI away from breaking GW's single-season record.
The list of nominees will be narrowed down to the top-10 on May 11, followed by the top-three finalists on May 24. The National Freshman of the Year will be announced on May 30.
