NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Saint Joseph’s junior Ross Pilliod was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer of the Week, and St. Bonaventure freshman Danny Gianniny was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Friday and are for events played from Sept. 28 – Oct. 4.

Pilliod tied for first place at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational this past week. Playing at the par-72 Links at Hiawatha Landing Championship Tees (7,104 yards), Pilliod, a Reading, Pa., native, carded a two-round score of four-under-par 140 (70-70) to finish tied for first with Monmouth's Nikolas Maff. There was no designated playoff hole, so Maff won medalist honors on a tie breaker, the lowest final round.

Gianniny helped SBU to two wins over the past week. The Pittsford, N.Y., rookie finished tied for fourth at Binghamton Intercollegiate, shooting even-par 72 in round one Sunday before coming through with a 1-under 71 in the final round Monday as the Bonnies tied for the team title. He carded seven birdies in the top finish of his young career, and he was one of just five players in field of 90 to break par.  On Tuesday, he helped the Bonnies to a win in the Murray Cup versus Siena by taking both of his points. SBU defeated Siena, 11-5 and Gianniny tied for low score of any of the 16 players at Murray Cup with a 76.

George Washington junior Logan Lowe turned in a top performance of his own last week as well at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. Lowe set the lowest round in school history with an 8-under par 64, breaking his own mark set last year when he shot 65 in the Marshall Invitational. The Grass Valley, Calif., native’s round included six birdies, an eagle and 11 pars. He went on to finish T-6th in the 80-man field for his first top-10 of the season.
