NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — George Mason senior Eric Edwards was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer of the Week, while Richmond freshman Stuart Fuller was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Friday and are for events played from Oct. 11 – Oct. 18.

Edwards, a Salisbury, N.C., product, finished third at the Phoenix Invitational in Burlington, N.C., on Tuesday. He finished third and shot a 7-under 206 (68-69-69) for his best finish of the season. Edwards, who shared medalist honors at the tournament last year, was the only golfer in the field to shoot in the 60s in all three rounds this year. After shooting a 68 in the first round on Monday, he recorded 69s the next two rounds to stay near the top of the leaderboard. On Tuesday, he carded just one bogey – his lowest in a round this season – and birdied three holes, including the first two on the back nine.

Fuller, who was playing in his first event as a Spider, rolled out a final round 73 after shooting the best score of any Spider, a two-over 74 in the first round. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native shot 225 (74-78-73) to tie for 45th at the Autotrader Intercollegiate, player at Berkeley Hills Country Club.
