Dayton Men Predicted to Repeat as A-10 Cross Country Champions
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — In a poll conducted amongst the league’s 14 head coaches, the Dayton Men’s Cross Country team has been selected as the favorite to take home the 2018 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, the A-10 announced on Wednesday.
Dayton, the two-time defending A-10 champions, received 192 points to top the poll. The Flyers return three top-15 performers from last year’s championship in seniors Chris Negri (third place) and Spencer Danielson (13th place) and junior JP Flavin (fifth place).
Saint Joseph’s was selected to finish second in the preseason poll with a total of 171 points and are coming off a second-place finish at the 2017 championship. Duquesne was selected third with 151 points, followed by La Salle (139) and George Washington (132) to round out the top five
Massachusetts was voted sixth in the poll with 126 points followed by George Mason in seventh with 120 points. Saint Louis recorded 101 points for eighth place and Davidson (87) along with Fordham (82), were ninth and tenth, respectively. Richmond, Rhode Island, VCU and St. Bonaventure rounded out the poll.
The 2018 Atlantic 10 Men’s Cross Country Championship will be hosted by the University of Richmond at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va. on October 27. The Cross Country regular season begins this weekend.
