Duquesne's Mehta and McKelvey Take A-10 Home Player of the Week Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Duquesne senior Noah Mehta and redshirt junior Robbie McKelvey claimed the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively, the league announced Monday. La Salle freshman Brett Werner was named Rookie of the Week. All three awards are for games played from Oct 15-21.

Mehta, a midfielder from Mississauga, Ontario, scored goals in the third and 45th minute to lead Duquesne to the program's first win (3-1) over a ranked team, #23 Rhode Island, on Saturday night. He logged 105 minutes in the team’s 0-0 draw at Saint Louis earlier in the week. It was the first point Duquesne has earned in 11 all-time meetings with the Billikens.

McKelvey, a goalkeeper from Dublin, Ohio, stopped five shots in a 0-0 draw at Saint Louis and followed that with four saves in Duquesne’s 3-1 win over #23 Rhode. The lone goal surrendered by McKelvey came on a Rhode Island penalty kick with the Dukes up 3-0.

Werner, a goalkeeper from Philadelphia, Pa., gave up just one goal over 110 minutes in Saturday's 1-1 draw at George Washington. The freshman made a season-high 10 saves, including four in extra time, to keep the Colonials in check.
