NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Davidson sophomore Kellan Grady as its Player of the Week and Dayton freshman Obi Toppin as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 28 – Feb. 3.
Grady led Davidson with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-17 (.555) shooting, including five 3-pointers and a perfect 4-of-4 at the line. After St. Bonaventure took a 55-54 lead, Grady answered with 10 straight points to spark a 16-4 run, which put the game out of reach. Toppin led the Flyers to a pair of wins this week, starting with a career-high 25 points (with a career-high 12 rebounds) against Saint Joseph's, and then raised his career best by a point in the come-from-behind victory over Duquesne. In addition to his 26 points against the Dukes, he also had four steals and two blocked shots. For the week, he averaged 25.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks, while shooting .733 (22-of-30) from the field and .875 (7-for-8) at the line.
