Carlton, Vagberg Named Weekly Golf Award Winners
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson senior Hoke Carlton was named Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer of the Week, while VCU freshman Adrian Vagberg was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Friday for events March 21-27.
Coming off back-to-back 11th place showings, Carlton recorded a personal-best third-place finish at the Furman Intercollegiate last weekend. The Charlotte native fired a three-under 68 on his final 18 to finish with a 54-hole total of 208 (71-69-68). His efforts led Davidson to a second-place finish out of 21 teams, just four spots out of first place.
Vagberg placed fourth in a field of 111 at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, his highest finish as a Ram. A product of Sollentuna, Sweden, he fired a 217 (70-72-75) for his second straight top 15 finish. The Rams placed fourth out of 21 teams on the 6,817-yard, Par 71 Golden Horseshoe Gold Course, thanks in part to Vagberg team-high four-over.
