NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Duquesne sophomore Manel Busquets was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while his senior teammate Robbie McKelvey was named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. Dayton freshman Toluwalase Oladeinbo was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were for games played Sept. 16-22 and included the opening games of league play.
Busquets, a forward from Barcelona, Spain, scored three goals in helping Duquesne's win streak move to a school-record six games. He scored in the 79th minute of DU's 2-0 win at Robert Morris and followed that with a pair of goals in the 17th and 47th minutes in Duquesne's 2-1 win at Saint Joseph's. Busquets' goals powered the Dukes to their first back-to-back road wins since 2009.
McKelvey posted 12 saves in helping Duquesne win its fifth and sixth straight games and capture its first consecutive road victories since 2009. He had four saves to secure his third shutout of the season, 2-0 at Robert Morris. Following that, the Dublin, Ohio, goalkeeper was outstanding in saving eight shots - one shy of his career high - in DU's A-10 opening win at Saint Joseph's. McKelvey has been in goal for all of Duquesne's school record six straight wins.
Oladeinbo, a forward from Lagos, Nigeria, scored three goals over a two-game stretch for the Flyers, leading Dayton to wins over Detroit Mercy and No. 20 West Virginia last week. He scored twice in a 5-0 win over Detroit Mercy Tuesday, including the opening-goal game-winner. He followed that up with another goal in a 2-0 victory over nationally ranked West Virginia on the road Saturday. Oladeinbo leads Dayton with four goals on the season, tied for the most in the A-10.
