NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton junior Jonas Fjeldberg was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Saint Louis freshman Patrick Schulte was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. Dayton freshman Toluwalase Oladeinbo was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were for games played Oct. 8-13.
Fjeldberg set a new school record with five assists in the 6-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday and recorded six assists for the Flyers last week. The Jessheim, Norway, midfielder attempted 11 shots, five of which were on goal, and moved his season total to six goals and six assists. Fjeldberg broke Dayton's single game assist record that was held since 1972 by Jim Gerker.
Schulte, a goalkeeper from St. Charles, Mo., posted back-to-back shutouts to help the Billikens to a 2-0 week. He made three saves in the home win against George Mason and four saves in the road victory at La Salle, and now has six shutouts on the year including all five in A-10 play. In addition to the saves, he was sharp on crosses and clearances that limited numerous scoring chances for the opposition.
Oladeinbo scored three goals over a two-game stretch for Dayton last week, including a pair in the Flyers' 6-2 victory over St. Bonaventure Saturday. The Lagos, Nigeria, forward recorded six points, nine shots, and six shots on goal in a pair of Atlantic 10 contests last week. It’s the second A-10 Rookie of the Week award for Oladeinbo, who posted a .667 shots on goal percentage for the Flyers.
