Hunter and Dawson chosen as #A10WXC and #A10MXC Performers of the Week, Conant and McGovern Tabbed Rookies of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Davidson senior Maddie Hunter and Massachusetts senior Dawson Bathgate were named the A-10 Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Performers of the Week while UMass freshman Sarah Conant earned Women’s Rookie of the Week and Fordham freshman John McGovern earned Men’s Rookie of the Week. The awards are for races held Oct. 7-13.

 

Hunter, a Charlottesville, Va., product, placed 28th of 541 competitors at the Royals Cross Country Challenge Friday at McAlpine Park, helping Davidson place fourth of 63 teams. Her time of 18:17.0 was just a second slower than her race at the Louisville Classic (18:16.2).

 

Bathgate took eighth overall at the New England Championships, completing the 8K race in 24 minutes, 59 seconds. The Rochester, N.Y., native helped the Minutemen to a third-place finish out of 25 schools.

 

Conant, out of Westwood, Mass., placed ninth overall in the field of 107 runners with a time of 18 minutes, nine seconds at the New England Championships, helping UMass women to a third-place team finish in a field of 22 schools.

 

McGovern was the first freshman across the line at the 2019 Metropolitan Championship on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park. The Branchburg, N.J., product was fifth overall, giving Fordham four of the top five finishers as the men won the team title for the second straight year and fourth time in the last six.
