FAIRFAX, Va. - The fourth-seeded Rams used a late penalty kick to defeat the fifth-seeded Massachusetts Minutemen, 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship Thursday at George Mason Stadium.

The defending champions, Fordham (7-7-4) will face No. 8 VCU in Friday's 5:00 pm semifinals.

UMass (5-13-1) had two solid scoring chances in the first half as a low free kick by Will Ellis from the top of the 18-yard box found its way through the wall, but was just left of the left post. Just under a minute later, Kevin Boino also put a shot on frame that was just wide of the left post.

With less than eight minutes remaining in the second half, the Rams set up a beautiful feed to Jannik Loebe, who was fouled inside of the box. Goalkeeper Jorge Becerra dove to his left, as Loebe sent the penalty kick towards the center of the goal, for Loebe's fifth goal of the season. Fordham would hold onto the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the game.

The match was evenly played throughout with UMass leading shots 10-to-9 and corners 8-to-7.

Becerra made four stops for the Minutemen, while All-Rookie selection Rashid Nuhu registered one save.
