Dayton Advances to A-10 Semifinals, Downs Duquesne 3-1

FAIRFAX, Va. - The second-seeded Dayton Flyers downed the seventh-seeded Dukes, 3-1, in Thursday's quarterfinals of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship at George Mason Stadium. 

With the win, the Flyers (11-5-3) advance to Friday's semifinal at 7:30 pm and will face the winner of No. 3 Saint Louis/No. 6 Rhode Island.

The Flyers got on the board first with a goal in the 40th minute from Player of the Year, Amass Amankona, his 11th of the season. Amankona made a great move right outside of the box, before lofting it into the top right corner of the net. 

Duquesne (6-10-2) found an equalizer in the in the 52nd minute off of a free kick by Bendik Hellstroem. Jason Twum collected the ball and sent it into Colin Phillips who chipped it in for his 13th tally on the year.

The Flyers regained the lead in the 73rd minute, as James Haupt netted his seventh goal of the season. Amankona scored his second goal of the night just four minutes later to give UD a 3-1 victory. 

Dayton outshot Duquesne, 17-5, while Duquesne's Sam Frymier made six saves on the night.

This is the first time Dayton has advanced to the semifinals in the A-10 tournament since 2009, with the Flyers making it to the A-10 Championship game that year.
