Richmond, Duquesne Earn Spots in Friday's Quarterfinals

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Fifth-seeded Richmond defeated No. 12 St. Bonaventure, 4-0, on Thursday at the Court Yard Sportsplex in the opening round of play of the A-10 Women's Tennis Championship.

At No. 6 singles, Katya Salas defeated Francesca Chin, 6-1, 6-0 to give the Spiders an early 1-0 lead. Kelsey Williams then gave UR a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. 

Gaby Rosales would then earn a 6-2, 6-2 decision at second doubles, while St. Bonaventure's Dominique Mortier and Mariam Skhirtladze picked up first set victories. At top singles, Anna Abadias and Mara Martinez-Santori split sets as well. 

The match was clinced at No. 4 singles when Ana Ramirez, after dropping the first set, rallied back to win the final two sets, 6-0, 6-1. 

With the win, Richmond will face No. 4 Saint Louis at 10:00 am. In an earlier meeting this spring, The Billikens defeated UR, 7-0.

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The sixth-seeded Duquesne Dukes defeated No. 11 Saint Joseph's, 4-1, at Camargo Racquet Club, in Thursday's opening round of A-10 Women's Tennis Championship action. 

The Dukes got off to an early start,winning first sets on each court except for No. 5 singles. Freshman Julianne Herman finished first, winning at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0 over Maureen Devlin to give DUQ a 1-0 lead. Alexa Miller then gave Duquesne its second point, earning at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1 over Alex Zachem. 

Saint Joseph's got on the board on court No. 5 as Adrianne Polatnick defeated Megan Wasson, 6-1, 6-3. Maddy Adams picked up a 6-0 first set victory, before winning by tiebreaker in the second set over Kristina Eisenbrand.

Sophomore Kylie Isaacs then clinched the match at top singles, beating Claire Minnoe, 7-5, 6-4. 

With the win, the Dukes advance to play No. 3 Davidson at 1:30 pm. When the teams met earlier this season, the Wildcats won, 4-0.
