VCU Secures Spot in A-10 Semifinals With a 3-1 Win Against Duquesne
ST. LOUIS — Fifth-seeded VCU defeated No. 4 Duquesne 3-1 (20-25, 30-28, 25-23, 25-22 in the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship quarterfinals Friday night at Chaifetz Pavilion.
The Rams advance to the semifinals, where they will face top-seeded Dayton Saturday at 8:30 pm ET/7:30 pm CT. Saturday’s semifinals will be available on the American Sports Network (ASN) website, AmericanSportsNet.com.
Two VCU players, Jasmin Sneed and Vicky Giommarini, recorded double-digit kills to lead the Rams.
After dropping the first set, 25-20, VCU responded by taking the back-and-forth second set 30-28. In the third set, VCU jumped out to an early 10-4 lead were able to hold on for a 25-23 set win. In set number four, VCU overcame an early deficit to pull out a 25-22 win to take home the match.
Duquesne libero Sammy Kline recorded 20 digs and three Dukes, Madelynn Burnham, Abbie Trzeciak and Maddie Bazelak, had double-digit kills on the evening. With the loss, Duquesne falls to 18-12 on the season.
