RICHMOND, Va. – Saint Joseph’s  sophomore Anna Willocks and freshman Pepa Serrano led the Hawks to a 2-1 win over fourth seeded Saint Francis in the first semifinal match of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship at VCU’s Cary Street Field.

Saint Joseph’s (15-5) advances to the A-10 championship final to face the winner of  No. 2 Richmond and No. 3 Massachusetts. It will mark the Hawks’ first appearance in the final match since 1995. The game will be played Saturday at 2:00 pm.

After a scoreless first half, the Hawks converted on a penalty corner, Serrano received the ball and made a quick pass to Willocks who passed back and Serrano put the ball in the back of the cage with a hard shot, putting Saint Joseph’s up 1-0. A few minutes later, the Hawks capitalized on another penalty corner, the combo was reversed this time as Serrano passed over to Willocks who scored the eventual game-winner.

The Red Flash drew a penalty corner in the last minute but couldn’t convert. Saint Francis’ season ends with and overall record of 11-8.
