Rhode Island Bats Advance Rams to Semifinal Friday

ST. LOUIS —No. 2 Rhode Island scattered 12 hits to beat No. 4 George Washington 8-4 Thursday in the 2017 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship at Billiken Sports Center.

The Rams (31-21) advance to play No. 5 Saint Louis Friday at 3:30 pm. The Colonials end their season at (31-27).

Chris Hess was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored to lead Rhody, while Martin Figueroa, Jesse Lee and Kevin Heiss each had two hits for URI. Heiss also has three RBI.

Robbie Metz was 2-for-4 while Mark Osis scored twice for George Washington and plated an RBI.

Rhode Island starter Vitaly Jangols (7-1) picked up the win, throwing eight innings allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.  Metz (0-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
