WASHINGTON – Fifth-seeded George Washington had three players score in double figures as the Colonials defeated 12th-seeded La Salle, 69-49, in the First Round of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship at the Charles E. Smith Center Tuesday.

Brianna Cummings led the way for George Washington, scoring 18 points on 6-of-9 (.667) shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Of the Colonials 26 made field goals, 19 came from an assist. Mei-Lyn Bautista contributed nine of those assists while adding five points of her own.
After a tight first quarter of play, the Colonials led the Explorers 14-13. With the Explorers holding a 21-16 advantage, George Washington used a 17-0 run to pull out to a 33-21 lead. With four seconds remaining in half, Prange hit a 3-pointer, to give GW a halftime lead of 36-23 lead.
With 6:07 remaining in the third quarter, La Salle’s Andreana Miller nailed a 3-pointer to cut the George Washington lead to nine, but the Colonials responded on their next possession to push the lead back to double digits.
Miller had 14 points, and Amy Griffin chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds and six assists of her own. The Explorers finished the season at 8-22.
