Host Colonials Keep Rolling, Shut Out Fordham to Advance
ARLINGTON, Va.— Dominic D’Alessandro was a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run to lead No. 7 George Washington for a 5-0 win over No. 3 Fordham in the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship at Tucker Field Thursday.
Nathan Woods (5-3) also spun a gem from the mound, throwing a seven-hit complete game shutout with four strikeouts, that helped the Colonials (31-25) advance in the consolation bracket. GW will face the winner of Richmond/Davidson on Friday at 3:30 pm
Ben Greenberg (6-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Fordham was eliminated from the Championship with the loss. A-10 Rookie of the Year Jake MacKenzie and Alvin Melendez were both 2-for-4 to pace Fordham at the plate.
D’Alessandro was the offensive machine, figuring in on all five GW runs. After scoring on a Nate Fassnacht single in the second, he knocked a two-run homer that scored Mark Osis. D’Alessandro scored again on a Matt Cosentino single in the sixth and then he drove in Steve Barmakian on a seventh-inning RBI single.
