RICHMOND, Va. – The Dayton Flyers (14-5-2) scored four second-half goals in 16 minute span to defeat a tough St. Bonaventure squad (8-10-1), 4-1, in the second Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship semifinal match. The Flyers advance to face second-seeded La Salle in the Championship finale on Sunday at 1 pm.

With just over 17 minutes left in the game, the Flyers took advantage of their ninth corner, as sophomore Nicole Waters sent the ball in to Megan Kerr as she headed it past Bona goalkeeper Megan Junker for the first Dayton goal.

Less than two minutes later, Kelsey Smigel entered the game for the Flyers and immediately made an impact. The junior collected a loose ball in the box and finished the play after getting tangled up with Junker, giving the Flyers their first lead of the game.

Nicole Waters sent a ball in from the top of the 18 to Sophomore Ashley Campbell, who lofted it into the top left corner of the goal, scoring her fourth goal of the championship.

Smigel sealed the game with her second goal of the day after senior Juliana Libertin’s shot bounced off the top cross bar. Smigel then collected the rebound, scoring easily past a diving Junker.

The Flyers outshot the Bonnies 35-5 throughout the game, keeping Junker busy in the net. The senior goalie recorded 13 saves on the game, an A-10 Championship single game record.

Each of the three Bona shots in the first half were on goal, including Lauren Hill’s first half score. In the 15th minute of the game, Hill fielded a pass from Abby Maiello at the center of the box, before finishing for her fourth goal of the season.

The Flyers will look to capture their 9th Atlantic 10 Championship crown Sunday, but will have to take down a hot Explorers team that defeated the Flyers earlier in the week, 2-0, in Philadelphia. The Championship finale will begin at 1 pm at Sports Backers Field in Richmond, Va.
