RICHMOND, Va. – La Salle Senior Renee Washington put a penalty kick past UMass goalkeeper, Danielle Kriscenski, to lift the Explorers over the Minutewomen 1-0 in the first overtime on Friday night at Sports Backers Stadium. The semifinal win puts the Explorers in their second straight Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship finale.

After 95 minutes of scoreless play, a foul was called, resulting in the Washington penalty kick. Washington drilled a shot past a diving Kriscenski for the golden goal in overtime. With the score, Renee Washington tied the La Salle all-time career goals record with 40, set by Amy Scheider (1999-02).

La Salle dominated the first half on the offensive end, taking 10 shots to the Minutewomen’s two. The Explorers best chance came off the foot of Maryam Huseini who lofted a shot, tipped just over the goal by Kriscenski. Kriscenski, who registered six saves on the day, would make another diving save on a Huseini ball in the second half to keep the Explorers scoreless.

The Minutewomen qould fight back and gathered momentum late in the game, but were unable to get past the La Salle defense, tallying just four shots on goal against La Salle keeper Jessica Wiggins.

The Explorers will face the winner of Friday’s second semifinal match between No. 1 Dayton and No. 4 St. Bonaventure in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship finale, Sunday at 1pm.
