AMHERST, Mass. –  Lauren Allymohamed’s goal just under five minutes into double overtime to propelled top-seeded Massachusetts to a 1-0 victory over fourth-seed VCU in the semifinals of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship.

UMass, which is ranked No. 12 in the nation, improves to 17-4 overall and advances to Saturday’s Championship Final where it will take on second-seeded Richmond at 2:00 p.m. at Garber Field on the UMass campus. VCU finishes its season 10-10.

The teams battled for over 90 minutes without either side finding the back of the cage, largely impart to VCU keeper Megan Botteri who made 19 saves between the pipes for the Rams.

Massachusetts threatened throughout the game, outshooting VCU 34-4, but were held at bay by Botteri.  On the final play of the game, Hannah Prince served the penalty corner to Allymohamed who shot the ball in the upper right hand corner of the cage to beat Botteri and send the Minutewomen to the finals.

It was Allymohamed's eighth goal of the season a day after she was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season.  She also anchored a backline that did not surrender a shot on goal.

Saturday will be a rematch of the 2012 Championship that saw UMass prevail 5-0 on its home field.
