Richmond Sweeps First Weekly Golf Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Richmond has swept the first Atlantic 10 weekly golf awards of the 2013-14 season, claiming Golfer of the Week honors for junior Danny Pizetoski and a Rookie of the Week nod for Keegan Hoff. Both awards were announced Wednesday for tournaments played from the beginning of the season in early September through Tuesday’s events.

Pizetoski won the season-opening Marshall Invitational, finishing at 6-under 207. He shot a 3-under 68 in the first round, 2-under 69 in the second round and 1-under 70 in the final round. The Davidson, N.C., native made it four-straight rounds below par with an opening round 2-under-par 70 at the VCU Shootout on his way to a 19th-place finish at 2-over 218 (70-73-75). His efforts helped Richmond win the Marshall Invitational, finishing first out of 15 teams and place fourth of 12 teams at the VCU Shootout.

Other notable players from the season’s open from around the league include Dayton’s Andrew Steffensmeier, La Salle’s Mike Johnson and St. Bonaventure’s Josh Stauffer.

Playing as an individual, Hoff finished third among all players at the VCU Shootout at 3-under-par 211. The Charlotte, N.C., native shot a 2-under 70 in the first round, even-par 72 in the second round and 3-under 69 in the final round.

Notable rookies playing in their first season were Dayton’s Caleb Wolters, Lucas Farner from George Washington and La Salle’s Joe Markmann
