NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – La Salle’s Nico Greco and Saint Louis’ Margo Richardson were named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. Also honored for their performances were Blake Croteau of Massachusetts, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Richmond’s Marisa Ruskan, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week. Awards were based off performances from September 30-October 6.
Greco, a senior from Terryville, Conn., paced the Explorers to a sixth-place team finish at the ultra-competitive Paul Short Invitational, which featured three of the nation’s top-20 programs along with several A-10 programs., with a time of 24:09 (8k). His individual eighth-place finish was the highest of any Atlantic 10 Conference runner at the event.
Richardson, a senior from Mt. Vernon, Ill., recorded a sixth-place overall finish at this past weekend’s Greater Louisville Classic with a time of 17:26.14 (5k). As a team, the Billiken women turned in a seventh place finish out of 20 teams.
Croteau recorded his second consecutive A-10 Rookie of the Week award after recording a time of 25:37 (8k) at the Paul Short Invitational. The Westfield, Mass., native has finished in the top three among UMass in each of the meets he’s competed in this season.
Ruskan, a freshman from Bound Brook, N.J., was one of three Spider runners to finish in the top 100 of the prestigious Paul Short Invitational. Ruskan recorded a time of 21:39 (6k) en route to a 79th-place finish out of a field of 406 competitors.
