Dayton Sweeps Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second time this season, Dayton’s Stephanie Emery and Elizabeth James have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday. The student-athletes are recognized for games Oct. 7-13.
Emery, a senior forward, had a hand in both Dayton victories last weekend, registering three goals against Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The Chicago, Ill., native had the lone goal and game-winner in Friday’s victory over the Minutewomen, before adding two scores in a 4-0 win over the Rams. Emery’s game-winner against UMass, her fourth of the season, is tied for first in the A-10. Her eight goals on the season are more than her first three seasons combined and ranks third in the league. On its current six game win-streak, Dayton has outscored its opponents 17-0 and will face Saint Louis (3-1-1/A-10) on Saturday, Oct. 19.
James earns her second Rookie of the Week nod after securing two shutouts for the Flyers. The rookie goalkeeper has led Dayton to a program-record six consecutive shutouts this season and leads the league in save percentage (.851) and shutouts (7). James recorded a combined 10 saves against Massachusetts and Rhode Island last weekend en route to two shutout victories. James and the Flyer defense have not allowed a goal in nearly a month, when Wright State forced Dayton into a 2-2 double-overtime draw on Sept. 15.
