NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –St. Bonaventure junior Lauren Hill and George Mason freshman Sarah Hardison have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday, for games played Oct. 21-27.
Hill scored in both victories for the Bonnies last weekend, including a double-overtime game-winner against Saint Joseph’s. On Friday, Hill scored the game-tying goal against reigning A-10 Champions, La Salle, with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation. The Bonnies went on to complete the upset off the foot of Molly Curry, giving St. Bonaventure its third consecutive conference win. Against Saint Joseph’s, the Webster, N.Y., native found the back of the net with five minutes remaining in the second overtime period off a through ball from Brittany Charles, who assisted on all three Bonnies goals. The 3-2 win was the fourth straight for St. Bonaventure, who will travel to Massachusetts for its regular season finale.
Hardison helped George Mason to its seventh shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over local rival, George Washington. The Hamilton, Va., product anchored a defense that held the Colonials to just one shot in the contest, and none on goal. The Patriots got on the board early on a Liz Hodges header in the third minute of play, then held GW scoreless for the rest of the game. Mason has recorded seven team shutouts, including four against conference foes, which ties for best in the league, as the Patriots improved to 4-2 in conference play with two games remaining against Saint Joseph’s and La Salle.
