MASSACHUSETTS 62, CLEMSON 56
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Cady Lalanne had 20 points and 12 rebounds as Massachusetts held off a late Clemson rally to win the Charleston Classic championship with a 62-56 victory Sunday night.

The Minutemen (6-0) continued their best start since the 2010-11 team opened 7-0. Not that it came easy as the Tigers (5-1) cut a 14-point lead to 59-56 on Rod Hall's basket with 56.4 seconds left.

Clemson's defense forced Chaz Williams into a wild shot the next time down the court, but Raphiael Putney was waiting to put it back for a 61-56 lead.

The Tigers final chance ended when 6-foot-10 Ibrahim Djambo was off the mark on a 3-ponter with 13 seconds to go.

Derrick Gordon had 10 points, the only other player in double figures for the Minutemen.

Rod Hall had 16 points to lead Clemson.

RICHMOND 68, FAIRFIELD 47
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Terry Allen scored 16 points as Richmond beat Fairfield 68-47 on Sunday in the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament.

The Spiders (4-2) opened the game on a 13-2 run and held Fairfield (1-5) to just 17 points in the first half. Richmond led by as many as 26 in the second.

Derrick Williams and ShawnDre' Jones also scored in double figures for the Spiders with 11 points apiece.

Richmond scored 26 of its points from the free throw line, where it shot 81.3 percent.

Fairfield shot just 33.3 percent from the field and was 2 of 19 from beyond the 3-point arc. Marcus Gilbert led Fairfield with 10 points but missed all five of the 3-pointers he attempted.

GEORGETOWN 84, VCU 40
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had 26 points and Georgetown fought off Virginia Commonwealth in the second half to hang on for an 84-80 victory in the fifth-place game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Sunday.

Markel Starks added 23 points, and went 10 for 10 at the free-throw line to help preserve the win. Joshua Smith chipped in 17.

There were 61 fouls called in the game, which lasted nearly three hours

The Rams outran the Hoyas in their previous meeting in the 2011when they blew out the Hoyas in the second round of the NCAA tournament on their way to the Final Four.

It was close throughout this time around. VCU (4-2) forced 26 turnovers, but couldn't get baskets to fall down the stretch, shooting 35 percent for the game. Georgetown (3-2) shot 56 percent, and was 6 for 11 from the 3-point line.

Briante Weber had 22 points to lead VCU, which shot 47 free throws. Treveon Graham added 17 points.

PROVIDENCE 71, LA SALLE 63
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) - Tyler Harris scored a career-high 22 points on Sunday and Providence held off a second-half surge by La Salle to win a 71-63, earning a berth against Maryland in Monday's finals of the Paradise Jam basketball tournament.

Kadeem Batts, scored 18 points, Bryce Cotton added 11, and Harris grabbed nine rebounds in holding off a second-half La Salle rally led by Tyreek Duren.

LaSalle (3-3) reeled off 10 unanswered points and led for most of the first period until Batts went on a 10-point run of his own. Cotton's layup put Providence (6-0) ahead 24-22 and the Explorers led 30-26 at halftime.

Providence led by 13 in the second period, but Duren sparked a comeback, making it a 1-point game on a free throw before fouling out and the surge fizzled.

Duren and Jerrell Wright each scored 16 for La Salle, Tyrone Garland had 14 and Steve Zack added 11.
